About Gastroscopy

  • Gastroscopy is a good screening test for seeing abnormalities in the upper gut.
  • An endoscope is used to look inside the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and first part of the small intestine (duodenum).

The entire procedure usually takes 10 minutes and does not hurt. The patient will be mildly sedated and asked to lie on the left. A plastic mouth guard will be placed between the patients’ teeth. Biopsies may be taken for further investigation if needed.

Dr Alexius Chee has over 25 years of experience in the medical field. Obtaining his medical degree from the University of Singapore, he continued his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine obtaining the Master of Medicine from National University of Singapore (NUS). Dr Chee completed his training in gastroenterology at Duke University, North Carolina (USA) where he was privileged to have trained under the tutelage of Dr Peter Cotton, Dr John Baillie, and Dr Paul Killenberg.
